Put simply, nutritional therapy is a way of improving your health through diet.
It is holistic and personalised, starting with a thorough assessment of your health, diet and lifestyle. All recommendations are tailored to meet your goals and with your preferences and practicalities in mind.
A thorough initial assessment throws light on current and past health issues, diet lifestyle habits, and your needs and goals. A nutritional therapist takes all the information from the assessment and pieces it together, like a puzzle, using the functional medicine model. This identifies potential nutritional deficiencies or imbalances... things that could be contributing to your health issues.
The nutritional therapist works with you to develop a plan with manageable actions that relate to the results of the initial assessment. This includes diet and lifestyle actions, and can also include supplements and functional testing to investigating something further. It may also include speaking to your GP or other healthcare professionals.
Nutritional therapy isn't about short-term dieting, but about educating you on how your food choices can impact your health and empowering you to make informed decisions in the long term. You have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and increase your knowledge.
Nutritional therapy also provides supportive accountability to keep you on track. Regular follow-up sessions allow adjustments to be made to the plan and keep you motivated.
